Westwood Pilates

What do you love most about Pilates? What frustrates you most?

What I love most about Pilates is that I am constantly evolving and learning something new. When I am practicing,  I either find a new connection or strengthen another. And I always feel so good after I do Pilates of course!  It’s frustrating when I think I’m doing something and I am not. I have learned to be patient with myself and understand that Pilates is a practice and our bodies change every day so it’s never done perfectly right.

What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a Pilates student? How about as a Pilates instructor?

My biggest strength as a student is that I’m willing to try any exercise and I’m enthusiastic about Pilates. As a teacher, I am positive and encouraging.

If you were trying to convince someone who has never tried Pilates before to come to your class, what would you say to them?

You will feel better after doing Pilates. It’s made for you to move your unique body the best way for YOU. You’ll find how to use your core, strengthen and stretch your body, sit and stand taller, and have fun while doing it!  It will change your life!

How did you get into Pilates? And who are you certified through? If you had a mentor, who was your mentor?

I started doing Pilates because I was having chronic back pain and relied on running after my kiddos for exercise for a few years and wanted to do so for many more years without pain. I started as a practice body for someone in a teacher training program and I was immediately hooked. I felt better right away. My first certification was with Pilates Technique and Jill Cassidy was the mentor in that program and went onto a bridge program with Old School Pilates under the mentorship of Daniela Mazal.

How did Pilates change your life?

Relieving myself of pain by doing Pilates is one way it changed my life. Connecting my mind to my body to my spirit by doing Pilates, empowers me, gives me more confidence, and relieves me of stress. I use Pilates in my everyday life with the strength and flexibility I have built. Being connected to my body has taught me so much in my approach to life.

What do you like the most about Westwood Pilates?

I haven’t not been at Westwood very long at all but Daniela and her staff of instructors are so warm and welcoming. They are all generous, knowledgeable, and experienced instructors and I am grateful to be a part of this magnificent team!
